 How to Get Into the Indian Army: Tips and Tricks



In order to become an officer in the Indian Army, you must go through the Indian Military Academy (IMA) entrance exam, which is extremely competitive and difficult to pass. While getting into the IMA won’t be easy, it isn’t impossible with the right preparation and tips. Know the requirements

There are four main entries to get into IMA. In your final year of Graduation, you need to pass the Combined Defence Services Exams, clear the SSB, be medically fit and join IMA as a Direct Entry if you come in merit. The other entries are 10+2 Tech Entry where you apply after your 12th Exams.


Eligibility to Join Indian Military Academy After 12th

For NDA Entry, One must have passed class 12th with Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics.

A candidate who is appearing in class 12th can also apply for the NDA Entry.

The Eligibility Criteria for NDA and TES entry are almost the same.

For the NDA Entry and TES entry: The candidate’s age must be between 16.5 years old to 19 years old.

To apply for any of these entries, one must be physically as well as medically fit in all manners. A minor problem in the medical or physical test can be the reason for a temporary rejection or even permanent rejection.

Join extracurricular activities

What's more, these activities provide you with an excellent opportunity to know people who are also interested in joining defence forces. You can use this as a way of developing your connections.


Do well in the entrance exam

The first thing you should do is sit down and practice with some sample questions. It doesn't matter if you're not interested in defence, a little bit of research can go a long way. Make sure you know what your strengths are, because they will come in handy when they ask you about them. You may want to read up on military strategy as well, especially if you have no military experience.


Prepare for the interviews

1. Preparing for interviews is key. Prepare interview questions you may be asked and be sure to know your strengths. 

2. Aptitude tests are usually a part of the recruitment process and can include mathematical, reasoning, or intelligence tests. Be sure to study! 

3. Study basic military skills like marching drills, rifle drill, map reading, etc., so that you'll have an idea of what to expect in training if you do get in!
